STOP Obesity Alliance Director Christine Ferguson participated in the World Congress Fourth Annual Chronic Care and Prevention Congress May 11-13, 2010 in Alexandra, Va. Ferguson discussed the role of primary care and primary care providers in treating obesity, and incentives for the prevention of obesity in a one-hour session at the event.

The STOP Obesity Alliance hosted a discussion on the important role the primary care community can play in the fight against obesity March 16, 2010 at The George Washington University. The discussion, led by Alliance Health & Wellness Chairperson Dr. Richard H. Carmona and Alliance Director Christine Ferguson, centered around results from two new surveys commissioned by the Alliance and conducted by Harris Interactive as well as a White Paper, “Improving Obesity Management in Adult Primary Care,” based on the Alliance’s Primary Care roundtable. A new study released today shows that rising obesity rates will continue to be an increasing burden on the health care system over the next decade. The report, titled, “The Future Cost of Obesity: National and State Estimates of the Impact of Obesity on Direct Health Care Expenses,” is the first to estimate obesity prevalence and costs at the state and national level 10 years from now.
