17th U.S. Surgeon General Richard H. Carmona Introduces New Policy Recommendation from STOP Obesity Alliance; Emphasizes Fitness as a Measure of Health

What: Richard H. Carmona, M.D., M.P.H., FACS, Health and Wellness Chairperson of the STOP Obesity Alliance and 17th U.S. Surgeon General hosts national webinar introduced the STOP Obesity Alliance’s newest policy recommendation formed by consensus among leading health care organizations.  The group added a fitness recommendation to its list of policies for public and private sector decision makers.

Why: The STOP Obesity Alliance’s five policy recommendations provide policy makers with specific, research-based guidelines for crafting obesity policies designed to improve health by 1) redefining success, 2) encouraging innovation, 3) addressing and reducing stigma, 4) broadening the research agenda and 5) encouraging physical fitness.

STOP Obesity Alliance Steering Committee members developed the recommendations by consensus and they reflect input of the diverse coalition of organizations that comprise the broader membership.
